It's actually safer to be out in a raging storm with Jesus than safe in a boat where he isn't. In the dead of night, when the disciples were trapped in a storm, Jesus came to them walking on the water. He called out, "Take heart. It is I. Do not be afraid." Peter looked out into the dark. He couldn't fully see Jesus, but he recognized his voice. So Peter asked for the impossible.
Lord, if it's you, tell me to come out onto the water. Jesus said, "Come." And Peter stepped out. He did the miraculous. He actually stepped out onto the water. But then the storm got louder. Peter took his eyes off of Jesus, looked towards the wind, and in the moment of doubt began to sink. He cried out, "Lord, save me." And scripture says immediately Jesus reached his hand out and he saved him.
In Peter's story is our story. When your eyes are fixed on Jesus, he empowers you to walk through things you never thought you could. But the moment fear of the world takes your eyes off of God, sin begins to kill you. And here's the promise. Jesus doesn't hesitate. The moment you call out his name, he reaches down. It's not about how strong your faith is. It's about who your faith is
