Who is the Holy Spirit, and how do we test the spirits against the Word of God? In this video, we break down what Scripture says about the Holy Spirit as our Helper, Comforter, and God Himself.
More blasphemy has been done in God's name, citing the Holy Spirit, than anything else I can think of. So, who is the Holy Spirit? Well, the Holy Spirit is God himself. And there's a lot to unpack there. So, first, Paul tells us that all prophecy, all scripture is written by men carried by the Holy Spirit. So, the word of God has been written by people inspired by the Holy Spirit.
So that right there lets us know that anybody who claims the Holy Spirit of God is saying something but is contrary to the word of God, they're not following the Holy Spirit. And there are other spirits. There are demonic spirits. They're deceiving spirits. And so we're supposed to test the spirits because the Holy Spirit will always affirm the truth of scripture. The second thing that the Holy Spirit does is he resides and seals every believer who accepts Jesus Christ as savior.
Jesus says, "It's better that I go away for then the helper will come to you." And that word helper he uses is helper alos meaning of the same kind. He's saying the helper is of God. And yet in John 16 he says, "But whatever he being the Holy Spirit hears, he will speak and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me."
And so here we see the Holy Spirit is in fact a unique person of the Godhead and yet is still God. There's only one God. Now the Trinity is a video for another day, but back onto the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is how the Christian is empowered to do God's will. God himself will manifest different gifts like a spiritual fingerprint that he will use to make his will done through the individual believer for the glory and building up of the church and as a testimony to the world so that others will be saved.
The Holy Spirit is also known as our comforter. Meaning that when we go through the sufferings of life as enemies of the world, God will proportionately and exceedingly comfort us in spite of our circumstances. And he will remind us of all truth and allow us to read the Bible. Let me know in the comments below what is your favorite scripture on the Holy Spirit and just how awesome it is that when God saved us, he did. Oh, but wait, there's more. He gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit on top of our salvation. And it's so beautiful.
